This life lesson is for those single moms who have had to raise teenagers on your own.  Currently my gray hairs are covered by hair dye, but I am convinced that most of them were earned during my daughter’s teenage years and beyond.  There were the nights that her curfew was forgotten, and there was no cell phone service on the mountain.  Or the time when she rolled the GMC over the side of the mountain because the mailman was on his cell phone in the middle of the road as she went around the curve.  How about the time she took off by herself to drive to the coast to see a friend about 6 hours from our home?  She did call me when she got there but ended up having no place to stay and had to sleep in her car.   Many nights I paced the floors praying or fell prostrate on the floor “eating carpet” before the Lord asking for His grace and mercy angels to protect her and bring her home safely. 

In the middle of one of those prayers, I remember the Lord giving me a vision.  I saw the biggest hand I had ever seen, palm up.  In the middle of the hand was my daughter.  She was quite small in comparison to the hand.  She was running around in the hand and she even came close to the edge of it once or twice.  Each time she would get too close to the edge, I saw the hand begin to close to keep her safe.  I heard the Lord say, I’ve got her, and I have her name written on the palm of my hand.  I will never leave her or forsake her.  She may go to the edge in her life adventures, but I will always keep her safe in my palm.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.  I will hold you up with my Victorious Right Hand!

In seeking inner healing, I was often prompted to fast and pray.  On one particular weekend as I was praying I asked God to heal the little girl in me that had been so wounded by rejection and abandonment of others.  He asked me to make paper dolls.  Well, I had not done that in at least 20 years or more, so I really had to think about how to do it.  It took a couple of tries cutting them out, but I finally had success.  The Lord told me to write on the paper dolls all the mean and hateful words spoken over me by others and myself.  Words like you are homely, stupid, fat, ugly and many other hurtful words. 

Next, He told me to write all of the bad things that had ever happened to me since I was born. This encompassed more than the little girl, so I knew He was doing a deep work.  I wrote the words rejection, abandonment, betrayal, divorce, molestation, and rape.  The last thing I was to write on the paper dolls was my feelings about myself that were negative.  I filled both sides of the paper dolls. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said that it was time to have a funeral for little girl, the teenager, and the young woman, who had experienced all that was written on the paper dolls.  He said she lives no longer.  When I was born again, I became a new creation in Christ Jesus and it was time to let her and the past go.  As I forgave each person who had hurt me as well as myself and God, I was then able to place the paper dolls in my fireplace and burn them on a funeral pyre. 

The Lord then said, Now, make a new set of paper dolls!   I cut out a new set of the paper dolls and I was told to write all the good things that had happened to me since I became a child of GOD.  All the words He had spoken to my spirit and what the Word of God said about me.  Again I began to write on the paper dolls, however, I did not fill both sides….yet.  You see I had only been a new creation in Christ for about 6 months.  But I had a good start.  I put the paper dolls on my refrigerator where I would see them every day.  I added to them the words of encouragement and His blessings that I received each day.  They were filled on both sides in less that six months.  Healing came through those paper dolls by His Spirit.
 
My prayer for you is found in Psalm 23:4  The Passion Translation (TPT)4 Lord, even when your path takes me through
    the valley of deepest darkness,
    fear will never conquer me, for you already have!
    You remain close to me and lead me through it all the way.
    Your authority is my strength and my peace.
    The comfort of your love takes away my fear.
    I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.

TESTIMONIES ON INNER HEALING
It is my heart in writing these blogs, that I might be able to give you some tools that have helped me along my path to inner healing.  I am a very visual person, so it is easier for me to understand when someone tells me to do something, if they will help me visualize what it is that I am to do.  For example, go to the closet with the blue door on the left and get the orange basket that has the baseballs. This tells me exactly where I am going and what I am to get. If someone had said go get the balls in the closet, it would have taken me a lot longer to figure out which closet, which basket, and which balls.  God is always faithful in giving us exactly what we need to help us understand His ways and His process.

I remember when I became born again, I thought wow this is great!  Now I have a good life to look forward to, because Jesus is in it.  I thought that I was automatically healed from my past experiences and that my life would be brand new, all good from here on out.  Little did I know that God was taking me on a journey that would last many years.  Healing usually is a process; however, it can happen in the twinkling of an eye. God did not choose that way for me. Instead, He chose to take me on a daily path.

Though painful at times, as I was dealing with the past hurts of, rejection, abandonment, self-hatred, and anger, I always knew that God was right there with me.  How?  Well, as I began to seek Him for inner healing of my mind, soul, and emotions, He would sometimes give me pictures in my mind, or He would explain in detail how to overcome something by relating my situation to a story of someone in the Bible.
