Waiting on a new assignment
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27: 14. After leaving a school where I worked for 12 years, I took time to seek the Lord for my next assignment. I felt this was an opportunity to allow God to work through me in a new way. I hoped to slow my pace of life and enjoy the time with my daughter. She was entering first grade and growing up so fast, and I wanted to be available for her after school. One thing that I believe God was trying to tell me was to stop allowing the “business of life” to take over. In the fall of 1996, I accepted a part-time position to teach 3-year-old children in a Mom’s Morning Out program in the same program my daughter attended several years earlier. I enjoyed this new assignment and developed relationships with the staff and children. I also had time to take part in and help lead a prayer group called Moms in Touch with mom’s in my daughter’s school. As I was seeking the Lord’s direction in my life, I worked with a Christian Life Coach to identify where I would best use my gifts. The results of his counseling showed me that Christian Education would be the best place for me to use my God-given gifts. That fall, I also attended a retreat led by my Spiritual Mama, Donna. During that retreat, I felt I received promises from God in Isaiah 61. There were many verses that spoke to my heart about a great exchange Jesus had for His people; healing the brokenhearted, freedom for the captives, joy for those who mourn, and a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Other verses I marked and dated in my bible were from Isaiah 61:7: Instead of your shame, you shall have double honor. And instead of confusion, they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore, in their land they shall possess double: Everlasting joy shall be theirs. God’s promises from these scriptures would be fulfilled in my life years later. Another scripture that the Lord gave me during that time was in Psalm 27: 14: Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! I was waiting for my next assignment and I didn’t know where or when it would come, but God did.
